Wisconsin Scenic Waterfalls
Wisconsin's Largest Falls:
Big Manitou Falls Douglas 165ft Morgan Falls Ashland 80-100ft Superior Iron 90ft Potato River Iron 90ft Copper Falls Ashland 40ft Peterson Falls Iron 35ft Iron County
- Superior Falls-90 feet: Montreal River (Lake Superior/Saxon area). Take Hwy. 122 north of US 2 approximately 4.2 miles. You will cross the Wisconsin/Michigan border. Continue another half-mile, then turn left on a gravel road. Parking lot available. An Iron county Heritage Site.
- Potato River Falls-90 feet: Potato River (Gurney area). This is one of the most beautiful in the Midwest. Travel south from US 2 on Hwy 169, 2.8 miles though the town of Gurney. Turn west on Potato Falls road, continue 1.5 miles. Town park and rustic picnic and campsites available.
- Peterson Falls-35 Feet: East Branch of Montreal River (Hurley area). Take US 2 west of Hurley area). Take US 2 West of Hurley for .6 miles to a gravel road Ero Nasi Construction sign. Follow the road straight east, (don't take any side roads), .3 miles and park in a small turn-around. Follow the footpath, located on the north side of the parking area, one-quarter-mile to the falls. Remote location.
- Upson Falls- 18 feet: Potato River (Upson area). Travel west on Hwy 77 from Hurley to Upson. Turn north at Upson Town Park sign, then left at end of the street. After crossing the river, turn left into Upson Town Park. Camping and picnic area is available.
- Gile Falls-15 feet: West Branch of the Montreal River (Gile area). Travel west on Hwy 77 from Hurley to Montreal. Turn left on Kokogan Road, then right on Gile Falls Street. Proceed on street to overlook of falls. A snowmobile bridge crosses the top of the falls and can be accessed by foot.
- Shay's Dam Falls-15 feet: Turtle River (Mercer area). Travel east on county J from Mercer 2.5 miles. Turn north (left) on Beaver Lodge Circle. Travel 3.6 miles past Beaver Lake Road. Turn (right) on Fisher Lake Road. Travel 1.2 miles to a small side road on the left leading to Shay's Dam; (watch for sign). A park with picnic area available.
- Kimball Falls-10 feet: West Branch of the Montreal River (Hurley area) Travel west of Hurley on US 2 for 3 miles. Turn south (left) on Park Road and continue .2 miles. Turn west (right) on Town Park Road. Cross the one- lane bridge to enter the park just below the falls. Other scenic rapids and cataracts are upstream. A picnic area and pavilion available.
- Lake of the Falls-10 feet: Turtle River (Mercer-Turtle Flambeau Flowage area). Travel north from Mercer on US Hwy 51 for 1.4 miles. Turn west (left) on Hwy FF and proceed 5.2 miles (watch for signs). Picnic and rustic camping facilities; boat landing with access to the Turtle Flambeau Flowage via the Turtle River.
Ashland County contains three of the highest fall in the state.
- Brownstone Falls: Located in Copper Falls State Park about 5 miles north of Mellen. The falls drop 30 feet into the Tyler Forks River. Enjoy camping, boating, swimming, fishing, nature trails, and concessions in the park.
- Copper Falls: Located in Copper Falls State Park about 5 miles north of Mellen. The falls drops 40 feet into the Bad River. Enjoy camping, boating, boating, fishing, nature trails and concessions in the park.
- Morgan Falls: located west of Mellen in the Chequamegon National Forest. The falls drops into an unnamed tributary of Morgan Creek.
Bayfield County
- Siskiwit Falls: Located about 1 mile east of Cornucopia on the Siskiwit River.
- Orienta Falls: Located at the Orienta Dam on the Iron river in Northern Bayfield county.
Douglas County includes Wisconsin's highest waterfall as well as some of the state's prettiest falls at Amnicon State Park.
- Amnicon Falls: Location about 10 miles southeast of Superior in Amnicon Falls State Park. The falls drop in a graceful series into the Amnicon River. Enjoy camping, hiking, nature trails and fishing in the park.
- Big Manitou: Located about 13 miles south of Superior in Pattison State Park. Wisconsin's highest falls rumbles 165 feet into the Black River. Spectacular scenic overlooks. Enjoy camping, hiking, swimming, boating, and fishing in the park.
- Little Manitou Falls: Located about 13 miles south of Superior in Pattison State Park, the falls drops 30 feet into the Black River. The falls are split, very scenic and the highlight of the park. Enjoy camping, hiking, nature trails, swimming, and boating in the park.
Marinette County claims the title of "Wisconsin Waterfalls Capital" with nine falls gathered in a beautiful driving tour.
- Veteran's falls: Located on the Thunder River about 10 miles west of Crivitz in Veteran's Memorial Park. Enjoy the wooden bridge, camping, and picnicking facilities.
- McClintock Falls: Located on the Peshigo River about 15 miles west of Amberg in McClintock Park. The falls is a series of rapids with bridges for exceptional views.
- Strong Falls: Located on the Peshigo River about 15 miles west of Amberg in Goodman Park. Enjoy the picturesque park with camping facilities picnic area and playground.
- Twelve Foot Falls: Located on the Pike River about 8 miles southwest of Pembine at twelve Foot Falls County Park.The park offers camping and picnic areas, trout fishing and terrific scenic beauty. A five-minute walk through the camping area brings you to Eight-Foot Falls. About a mile north of the park, you can visit Eighteen-foot falls.
- Horseshoe Falls: Located on the Pike River about 9 miles southwest of Pembine. Just south of Twelve-foot Falls. Small parking area with parking with trail to the falls.
- Smalley Falls: Located on the Pemebonwon River about 4 miles northeast of Pembine. Just west of Long Slide Falls. Small parking area with a trail to the falls.
- Long Slide Falls: Located on the Pemebonwon River about 4 miles northeast of Pembine. The falls drops about 50 feet through the rocks. Very scenic. You can hike to Smally Falls, located about 1/2 mile northwest along the Pike River.
- Dave's Falls: Located about 1/2 mile south of Amberg on the Pike River in Dave's County Park. The park is a joy offering a great picnic area, restroom facilities and playground.
- Piers Gorge: Located on the Monomonee River about 9 miles north of Pembine near Hwy 8 at the Wisconsin/Michigan border.
Brown County
- Fonferek Falls: Located 4 miles south of Green Bay at Fonferek Glen County Park. Created by Bower Creek tumbling 25 feet down the Ningra Escarpment. Enjoy a limestone-walled gorge with a stone archway.
- Wequiock Falls: Located 6 miles northeast of Green Bay. Created by Wequiock Creek tumbling nearly 30-feet over the Niagra Escarpment. Picnicking, restrooms and drinking water.
Florence County
- La Salle Falls: Located about 9 miles south of Florence on the Pine River.
Price County
- Slough Gundy: Located about 16 miles west of Phillips on the south Fork of the Flambeau River.
- Big Falls: Located about 10 miles south of Kennan on the jump River.
